Catalysis is a word that describes a reaction in which the rate and/or outcome are altered by the presence of a substance (the catalyst) that is not consumed during the reaction and is then removed if it does not become an impurity in the final product. Emerging advanced catalytic applications are in the field of nanotechnology, green chemistry, pharmaceuticals, food technology, drug development, production of synthetic fibres and plastics.
Chemical engineering is a growing field that deals with the design and monitoring of chemical reactions in industry for energy generation or human development. It has already started to blossom in the field of environmental chemical engineering, chemical reaction engineering, and materials synthesis and processing.
